METAFIT.

WHAT IS METAFIT?

Metafit is a 30 minute bodyweight workout that combines old school bodyweight exercises – think squats, push-ups, planks, burpees and variations of all – in a high intensity interval training (HIIT) format. No choreography, no fancy dance moves, no keeping in time with music or the instructor – just functional whole body exercises done for short bursts, short rest, at high intensity. The best bit – classes last just 30 minutes!

Metafit is suitable for beginners through to the advanced fitness enthusiast. It’s about working your body to its maximum. It’s about moving your body through movements that it was genetically designed to do but that our sedentary lifestyle is immobilising. It’s efficient, effective and affordable.

Metafit is ideal for anyone who is time poor – all you need is just 30 minutes a day, 2-3 times a week to see results. It can also be used as a complement to resistance training, sport specific training, or as a cross training option for runners, triathletes or cyclists.

*Heart Body & Soul Mums9am metafit sessions are specifically modified to be low impact and will be suitable if you have a good awareness and function of your pelvic floor and core. Low-impact exercise options are demonstrated (& encouraged) so that you can work at your own fitness level and step it up when ready. FAQs.

What is HIIT?

HIIT is an acronym for High Intensity Interval Training – this type of training involves cycles of short-burst high-intensity activity interspersed by recovery that aims to improve aerobic fitness. Because intensity is high, the duration of the session is short – any longer than 30 minutes and it’s not a HIIT workout. Metafit workouts are based on the HIIT principle that results in an efficient and effective form of exercise.

Do I need to be fit to do a metafit session?

No. The exercises performed in a metafit session can be regressed or progressed to suit all fitness levels and abilities. Everyone is different and has their own strengths and weaknesses – you work to your maximum and the metafit coach will ensure you are doing the exercise at a level that is appropriate for you.

I’m a bit uncoordinated that’s why I don’t go to aerobics classes – how is metafit different?

Metafit is un-choreographed, its not a dance or aerobics class. It is a selection of bodyweight exercises (think old-school exercises such as push-ups, squats, burpees, etc) done to great music with voice commands. Your metafit™ coach will instruct correct technique for each exercise and assist you with maintaining correct form.

Is it really just 30 minutes?

Yes. All metafit sessions include a dynamic mobilisation warm-up, the main metafit™ set – depending upon the workout selected can last between 17-23 minutes, and a cool-down.

How many times a week should I do a metafit session?

A growing body of research has found that completing 3 metafit sessions per week has the same or superior health and fitness benefits compared to continuous aerobic exercise. In comparison, the public health recommendation for continuous moderate aerobic exercise is at least 30 minutes a day, 5 times a week.

I’m training for a 10km fun run. Will metafit help or hinder preparing for this event?

Definitely help. Reviews have found that adding HIIT such as metafit alongside your aerobic training (running, riding, swimming) improves aerobic fitness outcomes over and above what aerobic training alone can do. In addition, the regular completion of bodyweight exercises improves leg, upper body and core strength, which further enhances your running ability.

Do I need any special equipment or clothing?

No, but a water bottle, workout towel and an exercise mat will make your experience a little more comfortable. Please wear good supportive footwear (cross trainers or running shoes are ideal) and exercise or training clothing that is breathable and provides support in all the right places!

Can I bring my child(ren)?

Yes. Metafit isn’t designed for young children (but this is in the pipeline!) but you are welcome to bring your child(ren) with you and they can watch whilst you workout. Please keep in mind that you will be responsible for keeping a close eye on them during the session. Children over 15 are welcome to participate with the approval of a parent/guardian over 18 years of age.

I have a group of friends/colleagues interested in metafit, but we can’t get to the sessions currently being offered. Can we start our own group?

Yes. Please contact jacqui@heartbodyandsoul.com.au to find out more about how metafit™ @ Heart Body & Soul can come to you.
